Keeping pace

When I was young I would pace
The mirror my catwalk and my fans
Time and experience have taught me
Beauty fades but wisdom does not wrinkle

When I was young I would pace
Rehearsing a play to be the star on the stage
Time and experience have taught me
The role of a lifetime is performing acts of kindness

When I was young I would pace
Arms raised heavenward trying to bend it to my will
Time and experience have taught me
The still small voice responds to the servant heart

When I was young I would pace
Giving the response to an argument I'd lost earlier
Time and experience have taught me
Slow to speak quick to listen slow to anger is the key

When I was young I would pace
Stalking gatherings hunting for someone to love
Time and experience have taught me
Sometimes what you're looking for is following you

When I was young I would pace
Waiting for someone to be done with the washroom
Time and experience have taught me
Somethings only get worse with time age and experience
